Salt 2020
Annual salt harvest in Kampot, Cambodia. Fields are scraped of vegetation, tamped to harden the soil, and flooded with sea water. As the water evaporates, residual salt is scraped into piles and carried to warehouses adjacent to the fields. Typically, fields are scraped two to three times a week throughout the season. There is one harvest per year, usually lasting two to four months, depending on weather. In the off season, workers from this village generally hire on to the local fishing fleet, or seek construction work in the area.
